An 11th hour change of plan costs Hefter dear.
With Crane (20's) and Thompson (50's) safely declared Imada (25's) was added for Hefter's trio only to be swapped for Parker McLachlin (80's) very late in the day. It appeared to be a masterstroke as McLachlin had led halfway through the final round until bogeys on 14,16 and 18 cost him a place in the play off. With the golfing Gods clearly against, it was Japan's Ryuji Imada who claimed his maiden PGA Tour title with a play off victory over Kenny Perry, after a final round, 5 under par, 67.
Further misery was heaped on Hefter as Horsburgh's top performer for the weekend, Columbian Camilo Villegas (33's), fired 5 birdies in the final 7 holes and clinched out right 3rd spot on 14 under and perhaps more importantly the bragging rights for Horsburgh and an
8 1/2 - 2 1/2 advantage
Speaking to Betfair, 'To say I'm gutted would be quite an understatment!' Hefter.
The only consolation, Horsburgh needed the out right win to pay out, while Hefter notched a sneaky £55 each way profit. Onwards and upwards to Texas, and this weeks USPGA FedEx Championship.
